New Delhi: A Delhi Court rejected the bail plea of a 55-year old woman arrested in a rape case. The victim was allegedly paraded around the city, smeared with black ink, and made to wear a garland of slippers. The court called out the event as “shameful” and a “black spot on the face of our society” since no one came to rescue.
Judge Sanjeev Kumar Malhotra at Karkardooma Court in the additional sessions said that the incident took place in broad daylight, in a busy residential area yet no one came to rescue the assaulted. A video of the same has gone viral on social media.
It further stated that the accusations against the victim were grave and serious. This included rape, assault, and rioting.
The counsel for the accused argued that she had been falsely implicated and was not present on the spot of the incident. She gave the argument that she was not seen in any of the video clippings.
The prosecution, on the other hand, argued that she had “actively” participated in the crime. The counsel for the complainant also submitted three witnesses for corroboration.
