Opposing the bail of Umar Khalid, an Accused in the Delhi Riots conspiracy case, the prosecution told the court that the 2020 protest was neither organic nor driven by women. It was used as fodder for the local People to increase Public Participation.

Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad, Khalid Saifi, Mira Haider, Salim Malik, and Salim Khan, among others, have also opposed the bail of the accused persons.

Amit Prasad told Additional Sessions Court Judge Amitabh Rawat that the protests were not only violent, but they also did not get support from the population living in those areas.

Amit Prasad said this while relying heavily on WhatsApp chats of various members in the Delhi Protest Support Group (DPSG).

Amit Prasad argued that there was no support of the local people in the riots, but people were called from other areas to increase their participation. Local illiterate people were instigated and used as fodder by the members of the protesting group.

Amit Prasad specifically said, “Appeal of women to join the march in Jafrabad at 6:30 pm will be looked into.” Prasad’s statement refers to the co-accused Natasha Narwal, who was involved in the group of Delhi riots that took place on January 15, 2020.

He further questioned, “If the local people are not supporting, then who are these people? Are these women, Who are being brought in from outside.”

Amit Prasad further said, “this is a well thought out conspiracy. All the opposing groups deliberately chose areas, fall within the “poorest” parts of the city to riot. This place is present in very narrow areas, and destruction could have easily been caused here. So, their aim was to use the population here as fodder.”

“All this seems to suggest that the opposition parties wanted to create a secular facade in the Muslim-majority areas of Delhi and the poorest areas.”

“Seelampur Natasha, who was sent by Rahul Roy to handle the riots. This is what we have shown in our charge sheet as well.”

He also argued that the Opposition Parties also used artists and entertainment methods to attract people to participate in the protest.

“The Common Man is very comfortable in what he is doing: he just has earned his livelihood. He is not interested in agenda-based protest, but at the same time, each one of us indulges in some of the entertainment. That’s why the Opposing Parties took the recourse of entertainment and included them, in their Parties.”

He also argued that the Opposition Parties also used artists and entertainment methods to attract people to participate in the protest.

Whereas the Prosecution does not want that every person involved in the conspiracy should be made an accused. But, the person against whom the evidence is found, that person will be punished.

The material used in the riots indicates that the knife, Stone, Red Chili Powder were taken by the exact place. So just telling that no one has said anything about it, it will not be criminal.

Sharp Charges have been leveled against Khalid, including Sections 13, 16, 17, 18 of the UAPA, Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, and Sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984. He is also accused of various Offenses mentioned under Indian Penalty.

Simultaneously, in February, a supplementary was filed against former JNU student leader Umar Khalid and JNU student Sharjeel Imam in a case related to conspiracy to commit communal violence in northeast Delhi.

The next hearing of the matter will be on Monday.

Yesterday, the prosecution had pointed out that the issue regarding the 2020 riots was not CAA or NRC, but to embarrass the government and be exposed in the international media.
