In the midst of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, a lawyer filed a petition in the Supreme Court of India. The petition seeks protection for the Indians who are stuck in Ukraine. Advocate Vishal Tiwari has piled the PIL and seeks immediate effective and diplomatic steps for the escalation of the Indian citizens stranded.
According to the plea, “The government has a responsibility to protect the life and liberty of its citizens, as guaranteed by Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, not only in India but also in other countries, especially when the citizens are helpless and all modes of transportation are shut down. Several diplomatic measures must be taken and implemented by the government.”
Directions have been sought to the Centre to supply essentials and emergency goods such as medical facilities, housing and lodging, and food supply. The plea also ensured that the MBBS degree of Indian students in Ukraine through online mode should be recognized, henceforth, they do not lose their careers.
According to the petition, the city of Kyiv is in a state of chaos. The civilians have no hope and hence, are trapped in the city. The petition also stated that students from every state are stranded in Ukraine. Their family members are worried and look up to the government for help.
